Stronger

Stronger

“What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger” I hate that saying, maybe I don’t want to be stronger, maybe I just want to be… happy. In this world terrible things happen to good people and you think “that can never happen to  me”. I never thought my life could get more painful and difficult than it already was, and then it happened. The thing I thought could never happen to me, happened, and I survived… barely.

A toddler Learns to walk and as she takes her first few steps, she stumbles and falls. With tears rolling down her cheeks she puts her feet on the floor with her butt in the air, pushes off the floor with her hands and tries again.

Never giving up even though life can be so hard is one of the best things I have ever done. At age twelve I was diagnosed with an incurable disease, at fifteen I began using a wheelchair. Even with all these obstacles in my life I didn’t give up on living it, and at seventeen I made a choice that forever changed my life… I went to a boarding school. I had been home schooled since third grade and needed a change. Thinking this was my last chance for a social life I tried not to be too shy, but I could feel my cheeks turning red with every new person I met. As the weeks past and I made friends the wheelchair and the disability didn’t seem to matter so much, I was just me and that made me stronger. Stronger to get though what my future would hold.

  1. Alicia, seeing your strength over the past 7 years has been an inspiration to me and gives me strength for my own Walk of Trust that I am currently walking. Thank you for being a blessing in my life.

  2. You were one of the best parts about high school to me. Lying on the blanket out on the front lawn, talking, reading, laughing… The sun on our skin and friends all around… I miss it. ^_^
